Biography

Matthew Hardy, PhD, serves as Deputy Executive Director and Chief Technical Officer of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), where he leads the organization’s technical programs and initiatives. He brings to this role a strong foundation in transportation engineering and policy, with prior experience as Senior Program Director for Planning and Performance Management at the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), where he guided national efforts in transportation planning, asset and performance management, risk, and data integration. Hardy’s academic work and professional practice focus on the intersection of engineering, policy, and planning, and he is passionate about preparing the next generation of transportation professionals. He earned his BS in Urban Systems Engineering, MS in Transportation Policy, Operations, and Logistics, and PhD in Public Policy, all from George Mason University, where he now teaches in both the engineering and public policy schools.
