Biography

Alex is a licensed transportation professional with 30 years of experience in both the public and private sectors, specializing in transportation engineering and land use. At the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), he worked extensively in the Traffic Engineering and Land Development sections, resolving transportation conflicts across multiple divisions, applying a deep understanding of engineering principles, public policy, and stakeholder coordination to develop effective solutions. Prior to VDOT, Alex led numerous traffic engineering projects at Jacobs Engineering Group, where he coordinated multidisciplinary teams, ensured quality control, and conducted advanced safety and operational analyses to improve traffic flow and corridor management. He holds an MS from the University of Delaware and a PhD in civil engineering from George Mason University, where his research focused on travel behavior in Transit-Oriented Developments (TOD), including the development of discrete mode choice utility models. For over a decade, Alex has served as adjunct faculty at George Mason, teaching traffic engineering at both graduate and undergraduate levels.
